I have been dying to get a cozy sweater dress that I can just lounge around in and also dress up for a day out. So, when I saw this Zara one on Boxing Day, it's safe to say that I was ecstatic.

a belated christmas eve
On Christmas Eve, two of my best friends and I decided to visit the Van Dusen Festival of Lights and bask in the Christmas spirit. Unfortunately, most of my pictures ended up quite blurry and it simply did not compare to how beautiful it looked in person. Nonetheless, here are just a few pictures that I wanted to share with you guys, even though the holiday season is technically over.

have yourself a merry little christmas
It is finally that time of year again, and while Vancouver did not have a white Christmas this year (currently still a bit upset about that), it's still the season to be jolly in festive colours.
PS. To make up for my lack of posts these last two months, this one is extra long. Yay!

gastown photo diary
Well, it certainly has been a while, hasn't it? Due to the upcoming holiday season (and the earlier dark nights), I have been either too lazy to come up with nice outfits, or too busy to document them!

nightcrawler
Movies I've Seen in 2014 - Nightcrawler
Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal
Supporting: Bill Paxton, Rene Russo, Riz Ahmed
Directed by: Dan Gilroy
Plot: Desperate for work, Lou Bloom stumbles upon the art of "nightcrawling" otherwise known as filming for late-night L.A. crime. Aided by a news veteran, he soon finds success, but with it comes a deep spiral into madness, blurring the lines between work and ethics.
REVIEW
Gyllenhaal has been on fire with his movie roles lately. Choosing instead to play meatier, darker characters rather than star in the latest blockbuster (sorry, Prince of Persia) Gyllenhaal has clearly found his place when immersing himself in the creepiest and/or most complex character that he can find. He proves his chops in Nightcrawler, a well-written and directed film about sociopath, Lou Bloom, and his escapades in L.A. crime. While there happen to be some plot holes, and there could be more character development and back story, it's clear that this is Gyllenhaal's rodeo. While it may not be an award season contender, it's safe to say that Gyllenhaal has made his mark as a talented actor that's only just begun to find his footing.

toughen up
As I write this, I simultaneously reminisce on Saturday and how great it was, as well as slowly die over my mountain of homework (no matter how hard I try, I just can't get myself to start working on my Chem lab). Yesterday I went to go see a brief NYU info session downtown with my friend (it doesn't hurt to think about the future, though I tend to do that too often), and then quickly shot pics before she had to go study. I met up with my other friend after, to visit a friend working at McDonald's, and then grab some bubble tea. Aah, procrastination.
I have worn my leather jacket for three days straight now, and I have no regrets. I wanted to dress polished but not too done up for a day Downtown, so I started with my white collared shirt that I haven't worn in ages. I tucked it into a simple pair of skinny jeans, and went with my classic ankle boots. Lastly, I had to wear the jacket again, to give the look the edge it needed.
The studs on the shirt are just oh-so adorable! I first bought this shirt for a Halloween costume to look like a vintage girl, but this just ended up being a part of my regular wardrobe. I just can't get enough of Peter Pan collars.
Wow leather! Badly painted nails! Frizzy hair! Much wow!
I just realized how blue my jeans look in this picture. Oh my.
Ankle boots will be the death of my feet. I'm perfectly okay with that.

bold black
Over 50% of all my favourite outfits are either a) monochrome, or b) all black, so it's not very surprising that my wardrobe choices often lack colour. Although, what I lack in brightness, I try to make up for with patterns and textures! I wore a simple collared sweater, with pearls for the collar, that really reminds me of vintage clothing (I simply adore it). Underneath, I picked out a simple floral skirt, and went for sheer tights and black ankle boots (I had black and white polka dot socks peeking out for just a little pop!). Lastly, an outfit is not complete without a cute jacket in my opinion, so I went for my classic leather jacket to give the looks the edge it needs.
Close-up of the pearls on my collar! Like mentioned, I just love the sweater since it reminds me of the 50's/60's, sort of like the Breakfast at Tiffany's look. Don't know quite how to explain it, but I just simply feel much more put together with the pearls, instead of just a simple white collar.
My leather and I are now one, we will never be apart. PS, my nails are super chipped, oops.
As soon as fall comes around, my love for patterned socks always hits me like a train. They are just so cozy and festive, and even the smallest and simplest of patterns make an outfit just so much more... fall?? Basically, this little blurb is to say that a) these socks made my life, and b) the closer it is to Christmas, the more I will wear cute socks.
