tryin' the vest i can

Once a week ain't so bad, right? Right. I decided to finally upload these outfit pictures I took a while back, because a) I need to stop procrastinating, and b) I'm going on vacation! I leave in about 4 days from now, and I'd rather not have these photos just lying around, waiting to be posted. So, here's a really brief outfit post, and stay tuned for quite a lot of travel pics to come in the following weeks!

knee socks

So, it's been a while. After what felt like the longest and most stressful week of my life, is two weeks of (hopefully) utter bliss and I cannot wait. Yesterday marked the first of what I hope are many adventures to come during this break. So, let's let the good times roll.

It feels like it's been centuries since I last updated this blog, when in reality it's been just one really rollercoaster week. But nevertheless, I am back! And with Halloween coming up, the blog posts are bound to keep on coming.

bold black

It was Thursday, and to say that my patience for waiting for the weekend was wearing thin, would be an understatement. To recap the end of my schoolweek, it went a little like this: notes, work, yawn, eat, work some more. OH, I also occasionally fell asleep in class, and had Starbucks delivered to me (I love my friends), as well as had friends take pictures of me asleep (I hate my friends). Oh, how I can't wait for the weekend.

Over 50% of all my favourite outfits are either a) monochrome, or b) all black, so it's not very surprising that my wardrobe choices often lack colour. Although, what I lack in brightness, I try to make up for with patterns and textures! I wore a simple collared sweater, with pearls for the collar, that really reminds me of vintage clothing (I simply adore it). Underneath, I picked out a simple floral skirt, and went for sheer tights and black ankle boots (I had black and white polka dot socks peeking out for just a little pop!). Lastly, an outfit is not complete without a cute jacket in my opinion, so I went for my classic leather jacket to give the looks the edge it needs.

Close-up of the pearls on my collar! Like mentioned, I just love the sweater since it reminds me of the 50's/60's, sort of like the Breakfast at Tiffany's look. Don't know quite how to explain it, but I just simply feel much more put together with the pearls, instead of just a simple white collar.

My leather and I are now one, we will never be apart. PS, my nails are super chipped, oops.

Black on black on black on sheer black.

As soon as fall comes around, my love for patterned socks always hits me like a train. They are just so cozy and festive, and even the smallest and simplest of patterns make an outfit just so much more... fall?? Basically, this little blurb is to say that a) these socks made my life, and b) the closer it is to Christmas, the more I will wear cute socks.

one for the road

It's official: American Horror Story: Freakshow is only one episode in and I am in love. Other than obsessing over the show, or just being plain moody and tired (yes, I'm sadly that person), I spent the day looking forward to the theatre crit show that I was going to watch that night. It was Avenue Q, and my god, let me say that it was... unforgettable. Hilarious, extremely crude, and very lively (unlike my outfit).

It's safe to say that American Horror Story has heavily influenced my style. Even though Coven was not my favourite season plot-wise, style-wise it was. Feeling a little bleak, I decided to go for a monochrome/ mostly-black look. I started with my black maxi skirt, and decided to toughen it up with a leather jacket and ankle boots. To make the look a little lighter, I wore a white t-shirt, and layered some necklaces. Damn, I wish I was the Supreme.

My latest obsession with all-black looks is to take pictures with them with my hair all to one side. I think it's because part of me has always wanted to have a half-shaved head, but then again my hair looks like ramen and Skrillex, so....

Awkward necklace tucked in my shirt, oops.

I got this leather jacket on sale during Boxing Day, I can't remember if I mentioned that. Leather + pleating + detachable fur collar = instant purchase.

My go-to jewelry thing is layering two necklaces. It's so subtle yet adds just the right amount of umph to an outfit. Crystal necklaces go with everything, and you can never go wrong with a necklace of the first letter of your name.

spotted

In September, Vancouver weather tends to be the most annoying thing on the face of the Earth. Why? Well, in the early morning, the weather starts off quite chilly but somehow, by the afternoon it suddenly becomes sweltering hot, only for it to be freezing in just another few hours. Basically, the weather goes from frostbite-worthy, to the face of the sun, to the sub-Arctic. Every. Single. Day. Sadly, yesterday was no exception. I went to go meet up with one of my friends, whom I hardly ever get to see, for a nice catch-up day in Downtown. We strolled, gossiped, and went to Cafe Crepe and one of my favourite cafes, Faubourg Paris. When the sun was starting to set, we skytrained to Canada Place, for some more strolling and gossiping. As you would expect, just as the sky was painted by the most beautiful colours, our legs were in danger of getting frostbite, and that's when we decide to trek on home, whilst cursing the Vancouver weather.

Anyone that knows me pretty well, or basically even sees me quite often, can probably tell that I love monochrome outfits. There's something so classic and interesting about pairing an entire outfit, head-to-toe in the two most basic shades (and don't get me started with how much I love adding just a pop of colour into it, sigh). That's why black-and-white patterned clothing articles excite me so much. They make monochrome outfits so much more interesting and add a layer of dimension in my opinion. When I saw this shirt at Topshop, it truly was love at first sight. I decided to make the most of the (briefly) warm weather and paired this patterned shirt with my black shorts and black boots to make a monochrome outfit. Of course, for the pop of colour I just put on a statement necklace (a must-have in anyone's wardrobe. Seriously. It'll come in handy), and wore my Kate Spade bag. In total, I used a total of two shades and one colour for the entire outfit (if you ignore the gold in the necklace). Love it.

Here's a close-up of both my shirt and my necklace. Wow, double whammy!

Fun fact: one of my closest friends, who has taken 90% of all the pictures on this blog, took her dog out yesterday during our little mini shoot. Her name is Coco and she may just be the cutest thing I have ever seen.

lovelace

Despite the title being clearly the last name of an adult film star, this outfit is not the least bit racy, do not fret. Once in a blue moon comes a day where I feel like not being an asshole but like being just a slightly bit generous; yesterday was one of those days. One of my closest friends had been feeling under the weather for quite a while and I decided to be Superwoman for a day and deliver her ice cream and chocolate (where's my Nobel Peace Prize?). After I returned home, I met up with my other friend, and we did what we do best: watch Maury. Honestly, it's so entertaining, you can't deny it (like a family where the guy cheats on his wife with her sister and he's the father?! Priceless.). Later on, after she left, I once again met up with another friend (it was also one of those rare days where people actually wanted to see me!1!1!!) and we went to a cute little cafe not too far from where I lived called Cafe Joie. We shot there and bought some macaroons, and of course, took pictures of the macaroons. I mean c'mon, if you went to a cafe but didn't take pictures of the macaroons, did you really go to a cafe?

There is nothing I love more than wearing a monochromatic outfit. Seriously. I find you can never go wrong with such classic colours, and I love how there are endless ways you can create a monochromatic outfit. You can play with textures (hence the lace shorts), and patterns (my jacket), and it can all be tied in with basics (my shirt and booties) as well as you can add a pop of colour (my bag). So easy, yet always so nice. Love it.

Here, have a close-up of my jewelry (which I wear religiously) and my patterns!

I am not exaggerating when I say that I live in these boots. It's only been about a year since I first got them and it literally looks like I've trekked to hell and back. Oh well, they're classic and cute. Ankle booties are life.

Here, have a picture of the macaroons we ate!
