Seattle Style: One Top, Two Ways

Over the Spring Break, I took two and a half days off to visit Seattle with my parents just to venture, shop, eat, and of course take pictures! While I have a Seattle Photo Diary in the works as well, I thought I might as well split it up into two posts and create a Seattle Outfit Diary too. So, hope you enjoy these two outfits that I packed for my brief visit.

speckled mind

Last day of school is here, YEEES! While I am happy to be back, it's obviously a good feeling to have the weekend again, and to have nothing to do. Fortunately, I ended the week off with my favourite of my two-days (aka how my school works: Day 1/ Day 2), Day 2. I opened up the day with Acting, where we had to build a bridge out of newspapers and tape (I think I've found my calling as a terrible architect), and we (surprisingly) succeeded in building our bridge, but we mostly just laughed at our hideous tape monster. Next was Sociology, and we had a long and interesting debate on different stereotypes and how they were True or False. I can gladly predict this will be my favourite class, possibly of all-time. After lunch was math, and I can't really say anything too kind about quadratic formulas. I ended off with a fortunate Free Block, spent going to Starbucks and seeing past graduates. By the time it was time to go home, it was pouring (and I mean pouring) rain, so I just spent some time relaxing at home, with a cup of tea and two good friends.

Like I mentioned, it was pouring rain. Hence, I was unable to take these outfit pics yesterday and had to take them this (Saturday) morning. It was so bad, the entire front of my pants were completely soaked (I actually looked like I was wearing two different pairs of jeans). Anyways, I knew in the morning before school that it would be rainy, so I decided to dress casual and a bit warmer. I wore my simple grey jeans that I rarely wear, and went with a classic grey shirt. The real winner of this outfit, is the knit speckled cardigan I'm wearing, which is actually a birthday gift from last year! I wore a circle scarf (my fall essential aside from ankle booties and military jackets), and to make the outfit more interesting, I wore my long crystal necklace underneath. Lastly, knowing it was gonna rain, I just wore my comfy and durable riding boots.

 Words can't explain how soft and warm this sweater is, my god.

I just found out this morning one of the zippers on the boot is slightly broken. Boo. Now I have to get it fixed, sigh.

one day i'll fly away

It's only my third day of school, yet I have managed to a) annoy a teacher (I think. Note to teachers if you one day read this: just because I'm loud does not mean I'm stupid), b) procrastinate on my homework (like seriously, I have done the safety unit for the last 3 years, must I do it again), and c) get annoyed until I'm on the verge of tears. That's a good start. Despite all that though, I am happy that it's much easier to get back into schedule. I have enjoyed my English class quite a bit (fun students + fun teacher, ayee), and while I didn't get the Chem teacher I wanted, I'm glad to have some good friends in that class. French is a party, and I'm learning to enjoy Physics, so I guess you could say class-wise, things are going just fine. Although, figuring out which teacher to become a service student for has been tougher than I imagined. My all-time favourite teacher already has about 5 other kids lining up to service for him, and another one of my choices is unfortunately replaced by a substitute that makes me want to rip my hair out. Sigh. At least I got to watch the premiere of How to Get Away with Murder tonight (I swear this is not something to be worried about). For a show that's basically like Suits but in college and revolved around murder, it's wickedly good.

 The moment that Pumpkin Spice starts returning to every food joint, I know that fall is here, and that it is time to bring back one of my favourite accessories: circle scarves. For some reason, I don't feel that regular scarves look good on me. They're cute, but I can never manage to wrap them nicely, so that's why circle scarves are like a gift sent from the heavens. They add a cute, cozy feel to any look, and on a simple look, like this one, it just adds depth and makes it more interesting. I wore one of my favourite patterned sweaters, that is oh-so cozy and perfect for the fall, either on it's own or on top of a button down. For my bottoms, I wore a pair of light blue skinnies that I really should wear more often since my dark blue jeans are actually dying. As usual, I am almost never seen without either heels or boots, or boots with heels, so I finished off the look with my black ankle booties.

Fun fact: I actually got this sweater, not from Topshop, but from Topman. I find that Topman, and other stores I shop at with a guys' section, have the best selection for graphic shirts and interesting sweaters. They're oversize, and extremely soft and cozy, and honestly that alone makes me love guys' clothing so much. To add on to that though, they tend to have more intriguing patterns and designs as well. Needless to say, at least 50% of all my fall/winter sweaters are from the Men's section. No shame.

Whilst taking pictures at a nearby complex, we were photobombed by the most adorable army of little kids! At first, I thought they would just disregard us, but I overheard the first boy (in the red, pictured in the first photo) saying "They're taking pictures! PHOTOBOMB!" And that was when my heart melted. I'm (sadly) not going to upload all the photos with them in the background, as you would probably die of cuteness. After much giggling and some stares whilst we finished shooting, I thought that that would be goodbye; I was wrong. They proceeded to follow us like little spies, hiding every time we turned around, equipped with their little toy swords and such. I'm pretty sure I squealed at least a dozen times.

maroon melancholy

Note to self: when switching out of courses, pray that your school does not have a strike. Otherwise, the wait for course change can be up to 3 or 4 hours. Thankfully, mine was only an hour, hour and a half max. Anyways, I have officially gone through my entire schedule once! Today was a Day 2, and because it's still the first week of school, I still had to go to homeroom earlier (it's only 20 minutes earlier, but it's 20 minutes of extra sleep). My first class was Acting, and words cannot explain how happy I was to realize who was in my class. Familiar faces, along with people I wanted to get to know better, my class was filled with people who weren't only good actors, but funny and lighthearted, as well as hardworking (well some of them anyways). It's gonna be a fun year. After that was Sociology! Once again, I was blessed to be put in a good class with a teacher who last time I had him favoured me. Good teacher who likes me and a super interesting and fun course? Check and check! After lunch, was pre-calc, and while I usually hate math, I've been lucky this year in that I got a really chill math teacher who actually teaches (note: my last year teacher spent 20 minutes every day doing nothing. Nothing. I almost cried at how little I learned). Lastly, I had marketing, and that is where my luck ends. I waited about an hour to drop the course, and now I am left with a free block, which might turn into a block where I can be a teacher's assistant. Needless to say, I celebrated my not-so-bad classes by having a Booster Juice with some friends.

Vancouver has been really annoying me lately with the fact that it pours rain every morning, and it is incredibly warm by the time I leave school. Do I freeze to death as well as get drenched on my way to class or melt my skin off on my way home? Decisions, decisions! That still doesn't stop me from getting into the fall mood by dressing in some layers! A trench coat is one of my absolute wardrobe essentials, so I paired one with a classic white tee, and to add some nice depth (as well as give me a cute, thin cover-up in school) I wore a denim shirt on top of it. Obviously, I can't wear a white shirt without adding layered necklaces, so I did just that.I haven't worn my maroon jeans in a while, and I thought they'd be more interesting than just basic blue, and because it was raining and I didn't want to be too fancy (yet), I just wore Doc Martens.

Trust me when I say that despite these obviously staged photos, Jessica is one of the most annoying people I have ever met... and that is why we click so well. Despite only meeting in grade 8 (where she lied and told me she was great at French, only to copy my work the next class, thanks Jess), I can easily say it feels like I've known her for a lifetime. After waiting for course changes with me, Jess came by to have some Booster Juice and help me take pics. To be honest, this has surprisingly been the most we have done in a hangout in a while. That's pretty shocking since I see Jess almost weekly. We usually just take naps when we meet up. Yep, these pics don't really fit our friendship very well.

trooping around

Fall would not be fall in Vancouver without endless rain. We don't have the nickname Raincouver for nothing. Yesterday I was supposed to have a small AHS-themed photoshoot, but it had to be rainchecked due to some showers in the morning/early afternoon. Instead, I went to Downtown briefly with my friend so she could exchange some film, but that didn't work as planned and we briefly scanned the racks at UO and Topshop, before skytraining back. Next, I stopped by my house to not only meet up with my neighbour, but grab my laptop and a DVD before heading to my friend, Asahi's, house for a chill day. I took pictures on the road outside her house, and what I thought would just be a quick visit ended up in me and a few other people staying till around 9:30. Oops. We ate tons of junk food, I made a blog post, and we ended off the night by watching old elementary school slideshows. I don't think I've laughed louder and cringed harder in my life.

Fall is here and I have never been happier! My number one, absolute fall must-have (after plaid) are military jackets. Plain, simple ones, patterned ones, ones with patches, it does not matter: military jackets are life. I got this jacket as a gift from my mom, and I am in love with how the leather sleeves instantly amp up the look. It's much edgier than just a simple green one and perfect for those days where I don't want to think about layering, but want to go for a fancier look. I went pretty simple for the rest of my outfit, tucking in a striped tank top into my go-to skinny jeans. I layered two simple necklaces (again), and because I knew that a) I'd be walking quite a bit, and b) I wasn't going anywhere too fancy, I went with my riding boots instead of heels for a classic yet comfy look.

I have missed wearing jackets so much. Words can't explain how happy I am that I can incorporate leather and just jackets in general into my wardrobe again.

99% sure these were my mom's boots and I kind of just took them and claimed them as my own.
